Now introducing Sublingual Immunotherapy for Inhalants and Foods.
The Silverstein Institute now has available the effectiveness of allergy shots in an easy sublingual form. Allergy drops are easy and convenient for the patient affected with both environmental and food allergies. Drops are taken under the tongue in the convenience of your home. This advantage greatly reduces visits to the office for weekly shots. Check out “Allergy Drops” by calling the office for an appointment with one of our physicians. What is Sublingual Immunotherapy?
Sublingual Immunotherapy is just like allergy shots but the serum is administered under the tongue instead of injected into the body. The Sublingual Therapy works to desensitize the patient to the environment or foods but at a quicker pace than shots.
Are Sublingual Drops safe?
Sublingual drops are as safe as allergy shots but much more convenient. Your safety is our primary concern and this is why we screen our patients carefully to ensure that the drops are made specifically for you.
Are the drops effective?
Sublingual drops have been used in Europe for many years with very positive outcomes. The drops are as effective as allergy shots but because you will be taking the drops at home and more frequently, the time frame for feeling better is faster.
What are the Benefits of allergy drops?
The primary benefit is convenience. If you work or have a busy life, allergy drops are for an excellent option. The drops do not need to be refrigerated so you can carry them with you. The drops are taken three times a day at home or wherever you are.
What are the Disadvantages of allergy drops?
The primary disadvantage is cost. Allergy testing for the purpose of immunotherapy is generally covered by insurance. However, “Allergy drops” are not generally covered by insurance and are an out of pocket expense. The cost for the drops is less than the co-pay or co-insurance for weekly shots.
Does insurance cover the cost?
Insurance covers the cost of the allergy testing which is necessary before the drops can be formulated. Insurance generally does NOT cover the cost of the drops. We are working with the insurance companies to get the drops covered for the future but as of now…they are an out of pocket expense. As always, call your insurer and check with them.
